Client Brief
The owners of this small suburban garden wanted to reclaim their outside space and to transform it from a tired playground into a garden for relaxation and a peaceful oasis.
Overview
The garden now features a wooden pergola that provides a sheltered seating area large enough for the whole family and friends to enjoy. The pergola also gives shelter and privacy from the surrounding houses.
A staggered porcelain pathway leads to the pergola meandering through large swaths of planting. A gravel garden with pollinator friendly plants and ornamental grasses add height and movement.
The imposing and ugly garage wall was painted a dark colour to act as a backdrop for climbing plants. Laser cut corten panels were mounted on the wall to create a decorative feature. The panels are back-lit with LED lights which create a 3D effect at night. A comprehensive lighting scheme around the garden highlights the planting at night along with festoon string lights with vintage filament bulbs which hang above the seating area.
