The brief

To create a peaceful pocket garden that reflects the award winning architecture of the house whilst simultaneously creating a plant-filled haven.

What we did

A bench built using limestone stackers and topped with tropical hardwood was partly built from the existing polished concrete. The bench with lift up lids also doubles up as a seat and to allow garden equipment storage.

The limestone cladding and paving were laid in the same bond, making it seem as if the paving flows down from the bench.

Paving bands stretch across the garden to the bench area at the rear and the gaps between the paving have been planted with mind-your-own-business ground cover planting.

Towards the back of the garden, there’s a small bench area and wildlife pond with flat edges to the ground and steps inside to allow amphibhians easy access in and out of the pond.

What makes this garden unique?

The clever use of the paving bands interspersed with ground cover planting makes this garden feel bigger.

The Result

A peaceful pocket garden that has a great balance between hard and soft landscaping allowing you to lose yourself from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
